Vortex Go Kart Track at Fun Spot America Kissimmee
Vortex is the kind of Go Kart track that makes people stop walking and look up. Our Kissimmee track rises four stories, reaches approximately 40 feet above the ground, and wraps part of its roadway into a 32-degree bank that looks a lot steeper in person than the number sounds on paper. You can study that curve from the ground and get a pretty good idea of why Vortex has become one of the most recognizable Go Kart tracks at Fun Spot America Kissimmee. One side of the road is visibly higher than the other, the track sits well above your head, and Go Karts travel across a piece of pavement that looks nothing like standard roadways.
Once you ride it, the view flips around completely. The bank you were looking up at becomes the road underneath your tires, the four-story structure starts to make sense one section at a time, and Kissimmee looks completely different when you are seeing it from a Go Kart track 40 feet in the air. Vortex does not need much help from extra adjectives when four stories and 32 degrees already tell such a compelling story.
The Geometry of a 32-Degree Banked Curve
Most roads are built so drivers barely notice their angle. They rise, fall, and tilt just enough to shed water, while the driver usually pays more attention to where the road is going than to the geometry underneath the tires. Vortex makes the angle impossible to ignore. A 32-degree bank means the roadway tilts sharply across the curve instead of remaining level from one side to the other, giving the track its most distinctive visual feature.
If you like putting numbers into perspective, consider the physical geometry for a moment. A pure 32-degree slope rises a little more than six feet for every ten feet of horizontal distance, so even without knowing the exact width of the Vortex roadway, the angle itself gives you an idea of how pronounced the banking is.
Central Florida gives us a useful point of reference about an hour and a half away. Daytona International Speedway officially lists its famous high banks at 31 degrees, while the signature bank on Vortex sits at 32 degrees. We are not comparing the two tracks beyond the angle itself, as Daytona is a 2.5-mile motorsports facility built for professional racing, while Vortex is a family Go Kart attraction at Fun Spot America Kissimmee with completely different vehicles, dimensions, operating conditions, and purposes. The comparison is useful because most people have seen Daytona’s banking on television or in photographs, so if those famous turns look steep on a screen, you have a familiar reference for understanding why a 32-degree section of Go Kart track catches your attention from the midway.
The Physics and History Behind Angled Roadways
The angle on Vortex is far more than just a visual trick. Banking has been used in roadway and track design for generations because tilting a curve changes the way the road surface interacts with a vehicle traveling through it. Physics textbooks use banked roads as a classic way to explain curved motion because as a vehicle follows a turn, it needs an inward force toward the center of that curved path, and an angled roadway changes the direction of the force supplied by the pavement itself.
Look at Vortex from the side and you can see that the road has been shaped as an active part of the curve instead of simply lying flat underneath the kart. That makes the pavement part of the attraction in a very literal way, where the track shape helps define the physical sensation of the turn.
Go Karts have been part of our Kissimmee history for decades. Our founder, John Arie Sr., opened his second Fun N Wheels park in Kissimmee in 1988 after years of operating Go Kart tracks and amusement attractions in Central Florida, continually pushing track design beyond the traditional flat courses that were common at the time. When Fun Spot opened in Orlando in the late 1990s, multi-level Go Kart tracks became one of the ideas most closely associated with our company, and our Kissimmee location eventually expanded in 2007 into a nine-acre park with Go Kart tracks, family rides, thrill rides, and an arcade. Vortex belongs to that larger story, fitting naturally into decades of Fun Spot experimenting with how much more interesting the road underneath a Go Kart can become.
Four Stories of Elevation and Sightlines
The steep bank gets most of the attention, but Vortex would be a very different attraction if that section sat directly on the ground. Our multi-level course rises four stories and approximately 40 feet, giving the track enough vertical space for the roadway to move above the park rather than simply spreading across it.
Your perspective changes constantly during that climb. Portions of Fun Spot America Kissimmee that were at eye level when you entered the attraction gradually drop below you, while sections of Vortex that looked high overhead from the midway eventually become the pavement underneath your Go Kart. That vertical movement also changes how you understand the track, going from a visual puzzle of crossing lanes from the ground to a surprisingly straightforward road once you are behind the wheel.
A four-story Go Kart track is not going to disappear into the landscaping, which is helpful if someone in your family is uncertain about heights. Much of Vortex can be seen from the ground, giving guests a chance to watch the attraction and decide whether the elevation feels comfortable before getting in line. One guest may spend the upper portion of the track enjoying the view across Kissimmee, while another may look at Vortex from below and decide that keeping both feet closer to the ground is a better plan for their afternoon, and both choices are completely fine with us.
Double Karts and Shared Family Experience
Vortex offers double Go Karts, so eligible younger guests can experience the track with an adult even when they are not yet tall enough to drive independently. Our current requirement is 54 inches to drive solo, while guests at least 36 inches tall may ride with an adult in an eligible double Go Kart.
For families, that passenger seat can be more important than any structural detail on the course. A younger child can spend five minutes looking at a four-story Go Kart track from the ground and then realize they actually get to climb into a Go Kart and experience it with Mom, Dad, Grandma, or Grandpa. The adult technically holds the steering wheel, although experience tells us that children rarely view this distinction as important, as young co-pilots frequently offer detailed observations about steering and road strategy throughout the ride.
Vortex shares Fun Spot America Kissimmee with another multi-level Go Kart track, Chaos, and we deliberately designed the two courses with distinct personalities. Vortex owns the giant bank and four-story profile, while Chaos gives families another way to experience a multi-level Go Kart course with its own layout, giving families two completely different reasons to get back into a Go Kart.
